Product Education

Vetter inflatable jacks are widely used in machinery moving, equipment maintenance, military applications, structural, emergency and lift truck services.

The Vetter Difference

Traditional inflatable bag jacks are constructed with multiple thick layers to withstand the rough and tough use. The bonding of these thick layers results in thick, wide edges and an overall bulky, heavy mat. This construction method has remained largely unchanged for decades.

Vetter inflatable jacks, on the other hand, utilize advanced high-strength materials that deliver the same exceptional toughness and durability with thinner sheets. Additionally, a technically advanced bonding process creates the smallest edge on the market.

The result is a thinner inflatable bag with an ultra-low-profile design that fits into the tightest spaces.

Its toughness can withstand at least four times its rated pressure and offers superior resistance to punctures, cuts, and blow-out risks from impact loading.

The ultra flexible bag molds effortlessly to the shape of the load, enhancing performance by improving lift and capacity, and filling voids more effectively.
Additionally, the thinner design translates into a lightweight inflatable jack which makes it easier to carry and also greatly improves the ease of positioning in tight spaces.

Vetter inflatable bag jacks enable overall better performance and usability in demanding conditions.

Selection Criteria 1: Application
Using ONE or MULTIPLE inflatable jacks

All Vetter inflatable jacks are made to work with your existing system. Outfitted with 1/4in universal quick connectors, mix and match Vetter bags and components with your own.

The inflatable lifting jacks have a waffle anti-slip surface to interlock when stacked. Bags are made for stacking to fill-in large voids and achieve more lift. Bags can also be used side-by-side with as many bags as needed for synchronous lifting.

If using two or more inflatable jacks side-by-side: Capacity is increased with each additional bag as long as the load weight is evenly distributed, and each lifting bag carries the same amount of weight.

If stacking two inflatable bags: Capacity is NOT increased with each additional bag. Capacity remains limited to the bag with the lowest capacity.

Stacking two air bags is used to fill a void, providing a practical alternative to cribbing. Additionally, stacking increases the lift height.
Note: Never stack more than two bags!

Selection Criteria 2: Space
Bag Shapes & Sizes

Inflatable lifting jacks can be used flat on the ground as well as cribbed, horizontal or vertical in a niche. The shape of the air bags vary with capacity. This provides choice to accomodate various sized spaces.

Each bag is outfitted with a diagonal connection nipple to allow inflatable bags to be rotated and use longways or sideways.

Selection Criteria 3: Capacity
Capacity Decreases with Lift Height

Lift capacity is dependent on the effective contact area.  When the inflatable bag is flat, it has the largest surface contact area with the floor and the load. As the bag is inflated, taking the shape of a balloon, the surface contact area decreases, reducing the lift capacity. See graphic below.

When selecting an inflatable jack, it may be helpful to expect the following actual performance in the field:

RULE-OF-THUMB

50% Capacity at

50% the Lift Height

The ‘50/50 rule’ applies to inflatable jack air bags: The bag will deliver 50% of the capacity at 50% of the maximum lift height. To increase total capacity, consider using multiple bags side-by-side. To increase lift height, consider cribbing or stacking two bags.

How to connect the system

Inflatable air jacks may be used on the ground, as well as cribbed or blocked. Single or double control boxes may be connected to the inflatable jacks for (1) one or (2) two bag operating systems. The control box activates inflation and deflation and is outfitted with an air pressure gauge and relief valve. The manual shut-off valve stops air intake and holds the bag inflated.

Accessories needed to operate an inflatable jack:
  • Single Control Box: Controls the advance, hold, and retracting of the air bag - Outfitted with pressure gauge and relief valve.
  • Double Control Box: Allows for independent or simultaneous operation of one or two air bags - Outfitted with pressure gauge and relief valve.
  • Shut-Off Valve: Manually shuts off air intake to inflated bag.
  • Air Supply Hose: Connects the control box to the air bag.
All lifting bags and components are outfitted with the same male and female 1/4in quick connectors.

Avoiding Point-Loading

Consider using a plate between the load and the inflatable bag if the load contact surface is not flat. Not only will this protect the inflatable jack against point loading, but it will also provide a larger surface contact area to deliver a higher lift capacity.

Understanding Inflatable Lifting Jacks

Intro: Inflatable jacks are industrial balloons used for lifting heavy objects or structures by using compressed air or water to expand a flexible membrane, made of strong, durable reinforced aramid fabric. These air bags are commonly used in situations where traditional mechanical jacks are impractical or unavailable. Inflatable jacks are valued for their portability, versatility, and ease of use, making them suitable for a wide range of applications, including vehicle recovery, structural repairs, and emergency response situations. These lifting bags come in various sizes and lifting capacities to accommodate different needs and scenarios.

Application: Inflate bags with an air compressor, portable air tank or other shop air to raise heavy loads. Designed for  lifting of machines, cargo, heavy objects, rigging, lift truck service, relocating industrial machinery, and moving shipyard equipment.

Description: Due to their multi-layer construction including aramid armoring, Vetter lifting bags are extremely robust and at the same time lightweight. The material will stand up to abrasions, punctures, tears, and resists many gases and chemicals, both petroleum and water based. The large anti-slip exterior of the bag enables use on hard or soft surfaces such as grass or sand. Each bag is clearly marked with capacity and other important safety information. Vetter inflatable jacks can be filled with air or water.

Industry Names: Also known as 'inflatable jack' or 'lifting bag'.
